What to Expect from a BMW Service Centre?

Owning a BMW must be a dream for many of you. But along with the pride of owning something luxurious, one needs to ensure that this lovely piece of machinery works well and stays with you for a long time. The only way one can make sure of this is by regularly taking your car to a BMW service centre. Whichever stage your car has reached, you need to perform the BMW factory maintenance as per the recommended schedule. This is the only way you can be sure that your car will run safe and be a reliable friend for years.

Obviously not all of you are well versed in car mechanics, so it is best left to the professionals. If you think that the BMW dealer is getting a little expensive, you can also go to an independent BMW service centre where an expert can give you the same service, stick to the same factory specifications and save you money in the long run.

BMW Service

All the modern models have a CBS system or Condition based service which gives you an idea of your service schedules. Any wear and tear is indicated by the sensors on your vehicle. Older models have an SII or a Service Interval Indicator that serves the same purpose.

Most BMW service centre specialists have their services scheduled into four kinds – Intermediate oil service, Oil & Safety service, Inspection 1 and Inspection 2. It is recommended that you keep in touch with your car’s maintenance schedules and keep abreast of it. Let’s find out what happens during these services:

Intermediate Oil Service

This service is scheduled quite frequently and is not pricey at all. The service schedule will let you know when you are due for an oil change. Generally, the schedule that is followed is between 50k to 10k miles for a modern BMW automotive.

Oil and Safety Service

This service is not only inclusive of an oil change along with the filter, but it also includes a safety check of the vehicle. This means that all the crucial items are checked during this service, like the indicator lights, brakes, engine coolant, rubber hoses and belts, suspension components, and steering linkage. Additional checks are also done at the BMW service centre, like wipers, wiper fluid, tire pressure, horn checks, dashboard warning signals and lights, and any kind of fluid leaks, and so on.

  • Inspection 1 – This scheduled service is also called as the Minor service. For models which come between the years of 1986 to 1998, the service schedules are suggested at 20k, 60k or 100k miles. On vehicle models which are later than this, the service schedules are suggested at 30k, 90k or 150k miles.
  • Inspection 2 – This service is called as the major service. For vehicle models which come between the years of 1986 to 1998, the service schedules are suggested at 40k, 80k and 120k miles. On vehicle models which come later than 1999, the suggested service schedules are at 60k and 120k miles.

These are the general schedules that are followed by most certified BMW service centre experts, and it is suggested that owners stick to this routine. However, it is probably a personal decision based on each one’s budget and driving style.

Some of you might prefer going to your nearest car service center or your local mechanic. They might be excellent, but it is suggested that you stick with an approved BMW service centre only, as service specialists at these centres are experienced and qualified for proper maintenance and vehicle checks. This would guarantee your vehicle’s safety as well. All the authorised service centers are well equipped with innovative technologies and experienced technicians. This ensures that your vehicle is in the best of hands and you can drive safe at all times. Also, BMW engine oils and original parts always meet the best of standards as needed by BMW vehicles.
